Ace photographer and now a minor celebrity Wayne Paulo was
invited to appear on Cruising with the Stars, hosted by popular
television and radio presenter Debi Jones, a new programme on
the Holiday and Cruise channel on Sky TV channel 284.
Wayne was a little apprehensive at first, as he headed out to the
Liverpool studio, the programme features singers, comedians and
magicians that are currently appearing on cruise ships throughout
the world, though Wayne used to be a singer and trumpet player
performing in the clubs and theatres "it was a long time ago" said
Wayne "as long as I don't have to sing" he added with a laugh,
though you will know that's not true if you have heard him on
You Tube!
He went into photography and over his thirty year career
photographed hundreds of celebrities, including some of the
entertainers that have already appeared in Cruising with the
Stars, his portfolio is vast and exclusively interesting, it includes
a couple of presidents and her Majesty the Queen, from the
Centenary year when she visited Blackpool Tower.
Wayne retired recently from his career as a professional sports
photographer, which took him to the top of his career working
for the NFL at it's height and covering eight Super Bowls in
America, one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
Though his work stopped his presentations didn't! A combination
of his entertainment experience and photography knowledge
placed him as the ideal lecturer, after trying out with his new
found talent as a guest lecturer at Warrington Media College,
then a local children's school in Fleetwood which was a smash hit
with the kids, he felt he was nearly ready, then as if he needed
any convincing at that time, an invitation to appear at a
University, no less, in American on one of his NFL trips convinced
him and he launched his presentations.
With a variety of musical presentation and visual beauty he went
onto do about fifty cruise lectures for Royal Caribbean aboard a
couple of their biggest ships, the Freedom, and the Independence
of the seas, still the biggest Cruise Ship sailing out of Southampton
in the UK.
Looking at Wayne's history it's not surprising then that Wayne has
published his autobiography "Nearly Famous", it will take you on
a bizarre sixty year journey that started in the Circus! A short stint
in the army stationed at Fulwood Barracks in Preston, he
appeared at the Blackpool Tower Circus as a Bareback Rider, then
went onto work the clubs all over the UK, the Country and Western
part of his act storming them in Liverpool and his trumpet playing
a hit all the way from Newcastle to Newport, though he does admit
to some tough venues along the way.
Debi Jones who once hosted People Today and Pebble Mill for the
BBC, was fascinated by Wayne's life story, so much so he may
have to go back just to finish it, well if you know Wayne there is no
way you can get his life story into an hour.
Cruising with the Stars will air Wayne's interview on Wednesday
evening 8pm 12th October, with repeats the next day at 8 am and
12 pm with possibly more repeats on the weekend, "so there is no
excuse for missing it" comments Wayne with a smile.
