Recently launched and only just on it's second full cruise I was honoured to be chosen out of thousands of potential speakers by Royal Caribbean's Linda Givens director of Specialist, Enrichment Programming Entertainment & Guest Activities, direct from their Miami office in the United States.
I made four presentations on the ship as it sailed to the Canaries, two on "How everyone can get better holiday photographs, the third, a humorous and a little controversial talk on "Is Photography Art", proving that all my work is artistic and some are definite works of art on their own and then I showed how the passengers could create their own masterpiece in minutes!
Finally, I showed the world premier of my life story in music and pictures becoming a walking advert on the North West in the process, I talked about my circus history, born into the famous Paulo's Circus in 1949, touring with Bertram Mills Circus, then how I progressed from appearing at the Blackpool Tower Circus as a Bareback Rider, to being stationed at Fulwood Barracks in Preston as a junior bandsman! Going on to appear in the North West clubs as a singer and trumpet player with my brother in law Liverpudlian Lenny Harris, from a song-writing record producer in a small recording studio in a Blackpool basement launching into my 25 years photographic career which included, photographing the Queen for centenary year, Gordon Burns, Ian Botham, Bruno, Ant and Dec right through to the six super bowls I photographed for the NFL in the USA, featuring two US Presidents, some of the biggest American football players in time, like Dan Marino, Joe Montana and Peyton Manning, along with singing super stars, Prince, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, The Rolling Stones and the North West's very own Sir Paul McCartney, the latter featured in exclusive video footage shot by my partner Estelle who has accompanied me on most of this bizarre journey!
Guest speaking in a light-hearted entertaining but instructional type of presentation worked well with the mostly British audience, never mind the X factor! I showed them the WOW factor in pictures and my personal life story.
The response was excellent and a vast amount of questions were received and answered throughout the ten day trip.
I was humbled by the passenger response even though I am an old pro, passengers commented "we have learnt so much in just a couple of talks", "this lecture has changed our whole outlook on holiday pictures", said another, one couple in particular said that I "was the highlight of their trip!" And another "the icing on the cake of a really wonderful cruise!".
